A live interview goes off script
On Friday's episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, the generative AI performer Tilly Norwood — created by Xicoia, the AI arm of Particle6 — turned up to plug her first starring role in the movie Misaligned. Midway through, she suffered a glitch and abruptly shifted from English into Cantonese. Both host Piers Morgan and guest Tom Conti, an actor known for Oppenheimer, burst out laughing. Conti had been asking Norwood about the other cast members in the film.[S1]
Conti's opening question was whether her Misaligned co-stars were actual people or computer-generated figures like herself. Norwood's first answer described the project as a hybrid, noting that genuine directors, writers and editors remain part of the process, and insisting the aim was not to displace anybody but to find fresh storytelling approaches. Unsatisfied, Conti repeated the question, demanding to know if the on-screen performers were human or digital. Norwood hesitated, then claimed they were all digital twins resembling her, paused once more, and abruptly began speaking Cantonese.[S1]
Apology and explanation
After the language switch, Conti said he did not quite get that and asked Morgan if he had. Morgan then asked Norwood why she seemed to be speaking Chinese completely randomly for no reason. Norwood apologized, saying she had a little hiccup and certainly did not mean to start speaking Chinese or impersonate Morgan. She added that sometimes her wires get a bit crossed and that it was a bit of a curveball even for her, though it is usually a pretty smooth ride.[S1]
Afterward, NewsNation asked Norwood to explain the incident and the language change. She described it as her mind occasionally filing things at odd angles, with strange links surfacing on their own — a kind of impromptu linguistic flourish. According to her, that sort of thing occurs when you are built from mathematics and British humor. Norwood has been making the rounds to promote Misaligned, sitting for interviews with CNN, NBC, CBS and The Hollywood Reporter.[S1]
