A Hollywood Bowl Return After a Career-Ending Injury
Aerosmith have scheduled two comeback concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 29 and November 1, roughly three years after a larynx injury suffered by frontman Steven Tyler forced the cancellation of their farewell tour. The shows are being billed as California, Dream On: Aerosmith and Friends, and the band will be joined by a long list of guest artists, among them the Black Crowes, Run-DMC, Heart, Andrew Watt, Billy Idol, Chad Smith, Slash, Duff McKagan, Eric Church, Sammy Hagar, and Tom Morello.[S1][S2][S3][S4][S5][S6][S7][S8]
The concert announcement states that more acts, guests, and unannounced appearances will be made public in the weeks before the performances, with the promise of memorable collaborations and surprises on both evenings. Each night's lineup is set to be different, and the final rosters for each show will be revealed at or close to showtime and may still change. Tickets go on general sale October 10, and the band's website has additional details.[S1]
The Farewell Tour That Ended Early
On May 1, 2023, Aerosmith announced a 40-date North American farewell tour called Peace Out. Guitarist Joe Perry told the Associated Press at the time that the timing felt right and that no one could know how much longer everyone would remain healthy enough to perform. Drummer Joey Kramer did not take part in the tour, choosing to focus on his family and health, and John Douglas played in his place.[S1]
The tour opened in Philadelphia on September 2, 2023, with a set that combined hits such as Love in an Elevator, Sweet Emotion, and Dream On with deeper selections including Adam's Apple, Hangman's Jury, and No More No More. It stopped abruptly two shows later, after a performance in Elmont, New York, when Tyler injured his larynx. The band first tried to postpone dates while he recovered, but eventually called off the entire tour.[S1]
In a statement, the band described Tyler's voice as an instrument unlike any other and said he had spent months working to restore it to its pre-injury condition. They said he continued to struggle despite having the best medical team available, and that a full recovery from the vocal injury was not possible. Describing themselves as a band of brothers, they called the decision to retire from the touring stage heartbreaking, difficult, and necessary.[S1]
What the Members Have Done Since
Tyler maintained a low profile in the years that followed, appearing occasionally to perform at special events such as Janie's Fund charity shows and Ozzy Osbourne's Back to the Beginning farewell concert in July 2025. On each of those occasions, he sang without any apparent difficulty or strain.[S1]
Perry shifted focus to the Joe Perry Project, his own band of long standing. That group headed out on tour in fall 2025, with a roster that included Aerosmith's Brad Whitford on guitar, Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes on vocals, and Robert DeLeo, bassist for Stone Temple Pilots. Meanwhile, Aerosmith bass player Tom Hamilton spent time on the road and in the studio with Close Enemies, his newly formed band.[S1]
In November 2025, Aerosmith and Yungblud released a collaborative EP titled One More Time. Tyler told Rolling Stone UK that meeting Yungblud for the first time was insane and that he fell in love with him on first sight. He said the only thing he could think of was that Yungblud was like a brother from another mother, and that it felt like looking at himself in the mirror.[S1]
